A Spider’s Story – How Life Works

art, weaving worlds, spider, teacher withinBy my art desk, there is a window.  Six months ago, I noticed a large spider
weaving her web on the other side of the pane.  Day by day, she built a
net across the window as I wove colors into fabric a few feet away.  I developed a fondness for her; a sense of kinship as we created in silent harmony together.  A pane of glass maintained our clear boundary as we wove side by side – each in our own world.  After a rain, I exalted with her on a good ‘catch’ day and cheered for her as she succeeded in stashing a large ‘spider’ wealth of small flying creatures in her web.

Several months passed of our weaving camaraderie when she surprised me with a baby – one itsy bitsy identical reproduction of herself. Continue reading “A Spider’s Story – How Life Works”

Commune Through Community – How Life Works

awakening, personal process, community, serviceThe process is personal; do doubt.  The path to inner harmony and well-being is an internal journey.  To claim full responsibility for one’s behaviors and attitudes and feelings requires reflection inward.  The call to learn and evolve and align within a Greater Design is often an inner communion.

To commune is to join in a harmonious blending. And isn’t it interesting that the art of engaging outward and joining with other individuals comes from the word commune.  Community.

Ram Dass said, “The cure for every psychological ailment is to get involved with a greater cause.” Continue reading “Commune Through Community – How Life Works”

The Teacher Within – Recognition of Awakening

Teacher, Guidance, Spiritual awakening, spiritualityWe can talk about our “Inner Being”, and we can philosophize forever on where the sacred Voice Within originates.  We can intellectually exercise and expand the concept of Guidance  into forever and beyond.  Still, it seems to me, there is only one question that bears fruit in its answer:

How do we recognize the Teacher Within?

If there is a wisdom abiding within our Being, functioning from behind what our conscious mind interprets as outside ourselves, how do we access it?  We have so many ‘voices’ playing commentator to our experiences – I know I do, anyway – how do we discern which voice speaks from Greater Intelligence amongst the voices that reflect well-worn opinions and biases?  These questions draw the line in the sand.  We can talk about it endlessly, but – at some point – we have to start listening to begin to understand the nuances of what it means.  Continue reading “The Teacher Within – Recognition of Awakening”

Could Ho oponopono and Law of Attraction Be This Simple?

law of attraction, field of awareness, ho oponoponoEver since my first visit to John of God in February, 2011, I’ve made ho oponopono a practice to clear the energy of attachments holding me stuck in counter-productive patterns.  At first, I found myself going Within multiples times during every day to release feelings and judgements and projections as well as dissolve projections and judgments held against me in currents of light and love.  My strong desire to be a vessel open to the flow of love through me inspired me to practice and keep practicing until – whatever situation or relationship had me in loop of hard thoughts and feelings – disappeared, leaving only a current of love and appreciation.

As you might imagine, I practiced a lot!  And I saw results. Continue reading “Could Ho oponopono and Law of Attraction Be This Simple?”

Persevere – Law of Intention Supports the Law of Attraction

law of attraction, law of intention, fulfillment, writer, authorPerseverance is not often associated with fun.  More likely, it’s categorized with hard work in the face of challenge.  Occasionally, I’ll meet someone who feels great esteem at their capacity to see a commitment through to completion no matter what the odds or obstacles.  More often, I find others -and myself – saying, “Why do this when it’s taking so long or feels so hard?  Why not find an easier path?

“Life is a journey,” many philosophers say, “It’s the process – not the destination – that defines who we are.”  Is it of more value to make each step of the journey fun then?  Or, can it be as rewarding to build the path as we travel it, cobblestone by cobblestone, creating a structure and form as we move through our days?  And, is it possible to make building a road fun? (see The World Needs Dreamers That Do – Law of Attraction in Action)

In the teachings of the Law of Attraction, it would seem that finding the path of moment to moment to moment happiness should attract the fulfillment of all desires.  If I am consistently happy, then I attract more and more experiences that enhance my happiness.  It’s as simple as that.  An irrefutable law.  If I find my way to the happy side of the street (see Happy For No Reason – Law of Attraction in Action), then all my dreams should come true.  Right? Law of Attraction Clarified – Introducing Law of Intention

The concept of ‘like attracts like’ isn’t new.  As far as I can tell, it’s as old as time.  Like gravity.

Perhaps, it wasn’t called The Law of Attraction in times past.  It might have been considered plain, common sense.  Just as with gravity – where we learn quickly what falling means and how consistently it occurs – law of attraction describes a simple and straightforward dynamic: Energy follows focus.  What we expect is what we attract.  The world view we hold is what shapes the interpretation of our experience.  As far as I can tell, it’s as consistent as gravity.

Why then, I wonder, are there so many books on the subject these days?  What makes law of attraction a movement now instead of – say – The Law of Gravity movement?  What is there to learn from this concept that requires years and years of study? Meditate Yourself Awake

law of attraction, power, happy, meditateI started reading self-hypnosis books when I was nine years old. I didn’t associate the practice of putting myself into a relaxed state – and making suggestions to myself in that state – as anything akin to the concept of meditation. Indeed, I don’t think I’d ever heard the term at that point in my life. All I knew then was that mind power, and how to influence it, fascinated me at an early age. It still does.

The first time I heard meditation described to me was during the TM movement, and the stories were amazing – levitation, group telepathy, inner peace. All experiences I wanted… But. The idea of sitting until I found an ‘inner stillness’ boggled my mind even more than the idea of levitating. The practice, itself, seemed too daunting for me. I could spend an hour writing affirmations – focusing and visualizing on their outcomes – much easier than I could disengage my active mind from thinking. And, as I understood it then, stopping thought was the key to unlocking these states of advanced mind capacity.

I understand differently now. Continue reading “Meditate Yourself Awake”

Beyond Law of Attraction

law of attraction, ho oponopono, awakening, happinessLong before the term Law of Attraction made its way into Google searches, the idea of using positive focus to influence outcomes was gaining interest.  I wrote my thesis (so many years ago it seems like another life time) on the influence of perceptual bias as it relates to the results of a person’s goals.  I found study after study after study that proved visualizing success had as much impact – if not more – than practicing for success in sports.  I found reported ‘medical miracles’ that had in common with each other one significant factor – a positive faith/knowing on the part of the miracle’s recipient.

Long before the term Law of Attraction came into play, the law itself was evidenced and documented. Continue reading “Beyond Law of Attraction”

Make Peace with the Past to Change the Future – Forgive

Awakening, relationships, forgiveness, love, hooponopono, law of attraction“What’s done is done.”  That’s what my momma told me.  As a child, it was a concept bigger than my young mind could hold.  Now, with decades of experiences behind me I understand.

There are words spoken in anger, and meant only to express distress, that can never be erased.  They were said; and, reaching their target, linger long after the outburst.  There are actions taken – to get even – that create more animosity rather than settling any score.  There are the choices made that cause pain to others.  There are those of us bearing the scars of someone else’s choices that cause us to speak and act in hurtful ways.

The list is endless, and the cycle can repeat forever.

For many years, I sat in a rocker and listened to individuals and couples and families describe past pains and the way they felt stuck in the repetitiion of hurting.  I listened, and I watched as these patterns became the defining points of their personalities and character.  Over time, I realized that the clients who spent the most time reliving and thinking about the harm done them in the past took the longest to find solutions in their present circumstance.  And the people less inclined to delve and analyze were the easiest to help focus into the changes they desired.

They embody my mother’s early teaching: “What’s done is done.” Continue reading “Make Peace with the Past to Change the Future – Forgive”

Free to Feel – Where the Power of Law of Attraction Lives

law of attractionIt can seem overwhelming sometimes – the obligations and commitments of Life.

We take them on one at a time, each one a seeming necessity in the pattern of living successfully in our communities and relationships.  Some appear as investments in our success – school loans, car loans, health insurance.  Some give us a sense of stability and connection – family, friends, partners.  Each commitment and obligation serves to create a framework upon which our choices hang.  These structures come to define us and the pattern of our lives…

Until we want something that doesn’t fit. Continue reading “Free to Feel – Where the Power of Law of Attraction Lives”
